Rule of Thirds

Basically, the rule of thirds goes like this - Take any photo and imagine a 9-part grid on top of it (see images below), where there are 3 rows and 3 columns - the image is divided into 9 equal parts. This can be done horizontally or vertically. As you're composing the image, try to align the horizon or main element along the top or bottom horizontal line - OR - if you're shooting a person or other object, try to place it where the gridlines intersect. It is believed that this technique will create more interest, tension and energy in photos vs. just centering the subject matter. For more info about the rule of thirds, CLICK HERE.
