Ring Mountain Open Space
The other day Hav, Harley and I went to Ring Mountain over on the Tiburon penninsula in Marin. We love to explore new parks, trails and find undiscovered local treasures and this place is definitely up there.
Before we made it to Ring Mountain we stopped at Off The Grid in Larkspur for some food. If you haven't been, it's a collection of food trucks that pop up in different places... mostly in SF but also in other places around the bay. This Off The Grid was at the Marin Country Mart in Larkspur. This place is so cool - a great collection of shops (George, Unionmade) and super conveniently located right off of the Richmond Bridge!
Anyway, there were some really cool tree trunk sculptures and I took a few shots of Harley and Hav...
That was fun. So then we headed over to Ring Mountain Open Space. I didn't know what to expect - Hav always finds these places on WeekendSherpa.com and we usually end up exploring a new place every couple of weeks. Apparently this is one of the top places in the Bay Area to watch a sunset - though you need to hike up to the top of the hill before sunrise (wearing a headlamp, etc... no thanks, LOL).
The place is really cool though, and more importantly, DOG FRIENDLY! Harley loved the trail and there were some great places to take photos, not to mention an amazing view!
This is Harley on the Marin side of the trail, facing the Richmond Bridge, which you can't really see in the pic...
...an awkward shot of Harley on a rock. Who's idea was this?
[above] This is Turtle Rock, which appears before you get to the vista point. Look closely, it really looks like a turtle, and it's a favorite spot for rock climbers. There were a bunch of people bouldering and climbing on it...
This is the view from the top - you have to walk to the other side of the hill to see the Bay Bridge and the Golden Gate but once you get up there it's totally worth it.
