Dacor Event with Tony Gemignani, World Pizza Champ
I got to shoot a really cool event at the Dacor Culinary and Design Center in South San Francisco a few weeks ago with guest of honor, Tony Gemignani. Dacor is a high-end kitchen appliance company and Tony Gemignani is an amazing 9-time World Pizza Champion! The guy is amazing, he can spin pizza dough on his fingers like a top... roll the pizza dough across his shoulders, toss it under his leg... you name it and he's probably done it.
I learned alot from Tony's pizza presentation -- from pizza ingredients to crust types and types of flour... it was all very interesting (which was a bonus to me in addition to being able to shoot flying pizza dough). It was also very exciting for me to eat the pizza -- one slice in particular stands out. If I remember correctly, it was his award-winning pizza recipe with procuitto, roasted figs and a balsamic glaze = TO DIE FOR. The crust, the most important part of the pizza, was GREAT -- crispy enough on the bottom so that the top stuff doesn't slide off, yet firm enough to hold and light enough to not make you feel like a total LOAD - the perfect combo.
