Dear Ellen: Hokey Karaoke
Dear Ellen,
How's it going? Things are good here. I'm sorry to report that I didn't take a good photo this week with you but i have a good reason.
Project DOG has taken a turn and things are really starting to happen. I haven't been scheduling many Project DOG photoshoots because I decided that it's probably best to wait until the final list is announced. Until then you will continue to get a weekly treat from yours truly sans project dog-specific dogs until further notice.
As a replacement I will be singing you some songs. This way you can really experience each facet of your multi talented friend (me). LOL...!! I discovered the myspace karaoke page today and I noticed that you have a little singing deal on there so I thought this might be another fun way to stay connected, since you obviously like karaoke too.
Funny because I haven't signed into myspace in YEARS. Umm, in 3.5 years to be exact. Crazy how it's like, mainly music stuff now, and some movies/video. Not really the Myspace I used to know and love, but different in a new fun way. Let me ask you a question... were you ever signed up at PlanetOut? I swear, gay people have been doing social networking LONG BEFORE the rest of the world. Old news to us! I had my first PlanetOut profile when I was 19, meeting people from the internet at a ripe young age hahahaaa.
I LOVE KARAOKE. Some of my best life memories are singing karaoke - fur realz. When I was in my late "coming of gay age" I used to go to Diamonz (the "dyke bar" in my town) to sing karaoke with the one and only Royal, the best karaoke host ever. I banged out the hits... a little Whitney here, a little Mariah there (I won $100 singing "Hero" once)... with my gay boyfriends by my side. It was so fun and we used to go a couple times a week. Then when I moved to NYC I started going to Planet Rose on 14th and Ave A to hang out with my "luvtender" aka Amanda the hott singing bartender. Good times... the amazing thing is that I'm still good friends with Amanda, she's one of my closest pals. 🙂
Anyway, here it is, my Myspace Karaoke debut.... "in the style of Pat Benatar".
I'm a little rusty but i'll get better... haven't had a sing-a-thon like this in ages (years). I LOVE SINGING!
Here's my Project DOG update: I have close to 850 dogs now. It's getting K-R-A-Y. My Twitter following is up to almost 4,000 and Facebook is up over 700! My little puppy (Project DOG) is growing up! I'm really excited because I found the perfect literary agent who I'm planning on pitching soon.... just a matter of time now!
This week was also exciting because I sent along a presentation to the first BIG company that I would like to work with on Project DOG. Think, vroom vroom... it would be so incredible if we could work together - I just need some gas and wheels to get around on (because I don't have a car, I drive Zipcars)! I thank my work in fundraising for my fearlessness hahahaaa...
Otherwise I don't have any major news. I'm going to be hanging some pet photos in a new veterinarian's office so I'm headed down there again this week to measure the space and figure out placement, etc... will keep you posted on that.
Hope you're having a fantastic week! Sorry it's been so blah lately!
Your pal,

OMG Diamonz!!! We were baby dykes there together! Kira, you introduced me to the SCENE! I have a picture of Karen and I outside that bar. I have some crazy pink wash-out streaks in my hair – obviously I was super cool :-p too funny.
Great singing. You are a woman of many talents for sure!
