Dear Ellen: Dancing On My Own
Dear Ellen,
...Another late letter, I know. I think I might actually write on Wed's going forward, we'll see. Anyway, it's been a great week. Especially this past weekend... my bday boat party on Lake Berryessa in Napa! It was a belated bday present from Hav, the coolest bday I ever had... (see pic). We planned it since August and it turned out to be the perfect day... in the 80s (maybe 90s), grill on board, music, a jetski... how much more fun could it get? Oh, I'll you - if my friends from brooklyn were there. But they weren't. It was really fun though, I hope we can do it again next summer... I definitely have a new love for boats. Holy crap I really needed that long weekend, I started feeling like a zombie from working so much, a day on the lake doing nothing felt really great. 🙂 What did you do for "labor" day?
Other than the boat party it was a really awesome weekend, I got to hang out with 2 of my closest friends who were in town (one is back permanently) and it was totally rad to catch up and hang out. I've known these people for YEARS and YEARS... my friend Laura I've known for 10 years, we met while I was in college (and she was 16, oops!). I dont have many "real" friends around here, they all live back east (mostly in Brooklyn). Unfortunately I'm the only one left out west, hmmm....so, it was really great to see everyone. It made me feel like a person again and not a working machine. The only thing missing was my GF, who is out of town... ugh.
So tonight I checked out the latest Ellen Karaoke Myspace songs (of your choice I'm assuming?) and I decided to go with Robyn's new song "Dancing On My Own." Not only is it an amazing song but the title is very appropriate for my life hahaha, I was never a "follower" if you know what I mean (although the song has a completely different meaning). Anyway, I really really REALLY love this song, she is so awesome, a total classic!! If you watch all the way to the end, you'll see me and Harley doing a duet. He kind of messed me up near the middle because he was behind me crying and whining... so I broke down a bit, but hey - it's the best I can do for 11pm, ok? So gimme a break already, lol.
So hmm what else is new...? ...Oooh, I smell poop.... crap! OMG so I just looked under the table, and Harley took a big poop next to my feet. I guess that's what he was crying about in the song. Here I thought he was singing with me, OOPS. Weird because I took him out after I was done singing and he didn't poop. ohhhh, the joy of dogs.
Project DOG is going really well. I think I experienced a slight lull because of Labor Day but everything was back on track today. I'm trying real hard to push myself to finish all of my proposals and get things "out there" but it just makes me so paranoid and anxious... eeek! From my list of X businesses, I can say confidently that 1 proposal is in the RIGHT HANDs at the RIGHT PLACE, now I just have to wait. It's a bit of a longshot, but I'm extremely lucky that it got as far as it did. 🙂 I'll tell you who it is if anything happens, until then I'm keeping it on the DL....*paws and tail crossed*
Not sure if you know this, but I've been writing daily updates about Project DOG on the PD site... you can read them here. I usually just go over the stats (FB, Twitter, etc) and write a little bit about what happened each day, for posterity. It's nice to be able to go back and dig around in the "archives" hehe. I should have been writing daily updates since the very beginning, oh well. At least I'm writing them now.
Also this week I launched the very first Project DOG Featured Organization. I'm going to feature a new organization every week. The org's are all animal rescue/advocacy groups from around the US and they will be filling out a 10-question interview which is posted with their org info and a button to donate. I hope it helps people learn about different groups out there working towards creating a more positive future for animals. The first rescue was Voiceless-MI, a group in Michigan. You can read their feature page HERE.
Things are really starting to come together, I'm pretty pumped. Even if none of my "corporate support" comes through, I'm still going to figure out a way to make this happen, because I know there are plenty of people out there now who believe in me and this project. It really is what keeps me going these days - I've even been waking up BEFORE my alarm so that I can lay in bed and tweet and check my Project DOG email before I have to get up before work hahahaa (if that says anything). But really, Project DOG has given me a new purpose, one way beyond that of a photographer or a designer.... to be the liason between people and organizations and animals. It's pretty cool, especially when I get new dog submissions to read everyday. I never want it to end!
Ugh well it's almost midnight and I have to go to bed! I've been working since 7am, I took an hour break to clean the kitchen, microwave dinner, load the dishwasher, scoop the litter box and clean up poop. Hope your night was just as fun as mine.
Talk to you soon!
