The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill

I was just looking through some old photos and I came across a bunch of photos that I took last year of the wild parrots of telegraph hill. You've probably heard of the book by Mark Bittner... if you haven't, it's a pretty good book. When I moved here 4 years ago I was hoping to catch a glimpse of the wild parrots, and it took me 3 years to get lucky enough to do so.I was walking around town with a friend who was visiting from New York when we suddenly heard all of this squawking... and I instantly knew they were the parrots. My mom has 2 caique's and so I am pretty familiar with what a parrot sounds like... it's unlike any other outdoor bird sound you'd expect to hear. Finally a huge flock of probably over 50 green birds came flying out of one tree and over to another... circling around in the air a few times before they landed. There was a woman in the park waiting around to feed them (it is illegal to feed them, don't do it!), and I was really lucky to catch a few shots!! They were very tame and let me come very close... these are babies. The adults have dark, reddish colored feathers on their head. These little green babies only have a little speck of red so far. It was pretty incredible if I must say... here are my 2 favorite shots: Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill | San Francisco Photographer Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill | San Francisco Photographer
