Dear Ellen: Walk East Til Your Hat Floats

Dear Ellen, I feel like I haven't written in forever!  So, I'm back in SF now after my trip back east to PA/NYC.  I brought you along but I didn't really take as many photos as I thought I would, sorry.  It was nice to finally relax and do nothing for once.  I actually only drove myself to Barnes and Noble to work twice the entire time I was there (because there's no wireless internet at home)! So the Saturday after I arrived I went up to my dad's house to hang out for an afternoon lunch with my grandmother, aunt/uncle and my dad's cousins.  My aunt brought her dog Starra, a Lhasa Apso mix rescue from the Northampton County SPCA.  Starra was rescued just after Christmas when my aunt took her in.  She was in real bad shape and they thought she was going to go any second because she caught pnemonia and apparently was suffering from a terminal illness.  Starra's hearing isn't so great anymore but she still has a zest for life and was sniffing around and exploring the backyard like nobody's business.  I think all she needed was some TLC because ever since she's found her new forever home, she's off of all her meds and livin the good life in Bethlehem, PA.  She's about 11 years old! Sunday was my sister's graduation and although I did bring you along to the graduation, I got sidetracked and forgot to take a pic... oops!!  It was fun though, she went to my old alma mater so it was cool to go back to high school.  Many of the same teachers that I had there 12 years ago are still teaching there! I finally made it to NYC on Monday.  I haven't been there in 2 years because of my crazy vacation schedule, so I was extra excited to go.... it was a long awaited trip.  When I got there I went and visited my college roomate at her apartment in Murray Hill.  She was the coolest roomie ever, and go grrl power - she was the first female high school wrestler in NJ!!!  Here's a shot from her rooftop deck: Can you imagine living somewhere with a view like that?  Hott damn that is my ultimate dream view.... So later that day I trekked over to meet my friend at his work and we headed over to Brooklyn.  My friends came over for dinner and we all got to hang out after having been apart for 2 years (they lived in SF too, but moved back east. I'm the only one left out here now)!  These are my true friends, I've been friends with these people for over 10 years!!  Sometimes I don't know what I'm doing in San Francisco because my real friends are all back east.... I dont have friends like that here. Meet Mexico City, aka "MC", master kitty of Bushwick Brooklyn.  He is barely a year old and yes, he's a 3-legged tripod cat.  He was rescued when he was a little kitty, his leg was injured and they needed to amputate it in order to save his life.  He gets around fine though, and he can run around and jump up on things too. He totally sniffed you down when I got you out! I ended up heading back down to Port Authority to catch the bus home the next morning.  On the way down there I willed myself over to Times Square in the heat to take a pic (this was for YOU, not me, LOL)... I'm sure you've been been there before, but it was just one of those things I couldn't not do since I was right there. Let me tell you that it was about 90 degrees with about 90% humidity (ok I don't know the real temperature but it was awful).  I am definitely spoiled by the nice weather out here in SF ...I like it hot but not humid.  You know how it is. Did I tell you I used to live in the city?  The city I mean NYC = THE city.  It's true.  And Times Square is my ultimate least favorite place to be - just like Fisherman's Wharf is  tourist trap hell here in San Francisco.  Whatever, I walked over to Times Square and snapped a pic.  It was cool cos I found a bush to prop you up in so I didn't have to look like an idiot holding it out myself... or ask a stranger to help.  People stared and laughed, errr.....but I got the shot! I do apologize for your aging face.  I see now that there's some discoloration and lines appearing around your eyes... I need to reverse the signs and make a new face for the next few photoshoots.  Also notice how I the city name is taped on... yep, me lazy. After that I headed back to Port Authority when I saw some cops standing around by their horses on 42nd St.  Of course I had to ask them for a pic!  ...The men ducked out (of course) but the lady cop was a good sport. 🙂  Look even ol' Wilbur wants a piece of you! I tried real hard to find a taxi cab driver who would pose with you, but after getting shut down by 5 people in a row, I quit.  I seriously asked the first 5 parked cabs outside Port Authority... I didn't think they'd be so weird about it, ugh.. their loss! Lastly, here is a photo with the "Commuter" sculpture by George Segal which is inside the Port Authority.  Have you seen it?  Have you ever been inside Port Authority?  I can't imagine that you would be... but maybe you have.  Anyway, I get a kick out of knowing that this sculpture was made by a notable American artist... Speak of the devil, after I took this pic I went down to the bus gate and I ran into my college thesis advisor and professor!!! (I was an art major, so this encounter was relevant).  Weird, right? If you ever visit the SF MOMA, there's a George Segal sculpture up on the rooftop deck.  Just sayin'. Well, that was my exciting week. Project DOG wise, I got some great shots of Starra, and I got some great photos of my friend's Chesapeake Bay Retriever.  Unfortunately I wasn't prepared to have a photoshoot with him, so I didn't bring you along, but I got a good shot anyway.  Next time I head back east I'll snap a shot of him with you. I have alot of work to do in the next month or two to prepare for pitching (scary!).  Gonna try to get some people on board to help me out so I can make this Project even more of a reality. This coming weekend I'm going to have photoshoots with Jester the Parti-Cocker Spaniel and possibly with Pacey the Flat Coated Retriever.  I can't waaaaiiit!!! Hope you have a fabulous week! PS: Kathy Griffin tweeted at me today!!  ...I hope you tweet me soon too!
